As a result, an ever increasing number of deaths have been reported and commerce has been severely affected.  2006 was also the year hundreds of thousand Latinos took to the streets across the United States in an effort to show Congress and the President how vital they are to America.

Cattle ranchers on both sides of the border are feeling the effects of increased illegal immigration in rural areas around Southern New Mexico and Arizona due to Operation Gate Keeper and tighter security measures which is pushing them to more remote areas.  Some of the ranchers main concerns are dangers from drug runners coming up through their properties, damage to their lands, such as cuttiing fences, and the loads of trash left, as well as theft.
